...themselves as Russians, and they are not "occupants", they lived on these lands for centuries. A lot of people there regard Russian culture as their culture, and they're right because Ukrainians and Bielorussians contributed a lot into this culture, so how can we call it only Russian? (the same is about our Siberian stocks of resources - why should they belong only to Russians? It's not obvious. We developed them together). Of course, we have old conflicts, old mutual pretentions... And Western Ukraine and Bielorussia have almost nothing common with Russian tradition and culture. But still these coutries cannot construct their poliitical line "against Russia" (like Poland does ;-) ) - it may simply kill them as states from inside, separate into parts... unfortunately for our bilateral relations, we have long tradition of supporting nations who wanted to gain independence from Soviet...
